14-year-old Award Winning Ghanaian Actor Is Not A Street Child

MK Casting, official reppresentatives of 14-year-old award winning actor, Abraham Attah, has refuted reports that he was a street child. The young actor’s management, in a statement on their facebook page stated that, Abraham is not a street child as reported and that "he lives with his parents here in Ashaiman, Accra Ghana."

MK Castings clear the air after reports emerged that Attah Abraham was virtually picked from the streets to star in the yet-to-released film, ‘Beats of No Nation’. These reports came soon after he won the Marcello Mastroianni’s Best Young Actor Award at the 2015 Venice Film Festival for his lead performance in the movie alongside Idris Elba.

Abraham is said to have been randomly selected on the streets. The Director of the movie, Cary FukunagaAbraham is reported to have said “The lead in ‘Beasts of No Nation’ was essentially a street vendor before we shot the film. [He had] zero film experience, little education…but he became a somewhat professional actor, which was astounding to watch.”

However, MK Casting has said the reports are false. According to them Abraham was "spotted among other kids playing football on a park by the casting team who spoke to him about the film and he introduced them to his parent. And went through the audition process."
