FEATURE: Why Everybody Is Comparing Their Song To Gasmila's 'Telemo'

Since Gasmila's song 'Telemo', (which is now many people's favorite), became popular, there have been a number of comparisons made to the song and I keep asking "why this particular song?". But I think I know the reason now: Because 'Telemo' is the biggest hit song in Ghana now (without a doubt) and everybody want to believe their song is as popular simple.

Now lets recount the comparisons;

First, it was Sarkodie's 'New Guy'which featured International artiste, Ace Hood.

 Though 'Telemo' was officially released in August 2014 (and the visuals was released in December 2014) it was not really a hit, then Sarkodie released 'New Guy' and then people started comparing the two.

The comparison became like a debate on social media and we all said what we had to say. But now, I don't even remember the last time I heard 'New Guy' anywhere but 'Telemo' is heard everywhere, which you don't need to be told.

Then soon after that, the 'king of the streets', Kwaw Kesse also came out saying his 'Yakubu' song which featured Sarkodie is the biggest song in Ghana now and not 'Telemo'. And I was like, "TELEMO AGAIN?". Well according to Kwaw, his song "is all over Ghana" and his fans now call him "Yakubu" instead of Kwaw Kesse. But am sure we will all agree that 'Yakubu' is indeed a nice song and that fact can not be disputed but is it really popular than 'Telemo'? Come on lets call a spade a spade.

Then just few days ago, up and coming rap artiste, Koo Ntakra also compared his song to this same 'Telemo' when venting his frustrations over how his new song, 'Wurewurafo' featuring Pope Skinny (which he believes is as big as "Telemo") is not enjoying massive air play like other songs.

So if you are still saying this 'Telemo' song is not the most popular song in GH now, then i want to know ooo, why does everybody keep comparing the popularity of their song to it again? See this song is a big hit now (and i know some people will still argue that its not) and every body loves it (both kids and adults) which i believe we all know by now.

However, it is sad how they say the song will not even gain a nomination at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards as according to a publication by Thinkgh.com's David Mawuli, Chaterhouse's criteria expects all songs to be nominated for the awards to fall within the year in review – from January 1 to December 31, 2015, and 'Telemo' was released last year. But can Gasmilla be nominated for the artist of the year? I will leave that for the music experts to answer.

By the way, enjoy this meme of Beyonce and Kevi Harts dancing to 'Telemo' and laugh your headache off. lol.
